It's the perfect hue for use on outdoor metalwork, or for gentler take on a classic front door colour, but can also be used as a wall colour in small spaces for a look that's dramatic but not overwhelming.

2.5 Litres of Smelt Black No.G18 in Farrow & Ball Modern Emulsion, the brand's super-tough matt finish for interior walls and ceilings. With a 7% sheen level, it is washable and wipeable, scuff and stain resistant and protected against mould, making it especially suited to kitchens, bathrooms and busy areas of the home.

Where to use: interior walls and ceilings, including moisture-prone kitchens and bathrooms. Not for use in shower enclosures or on surfaces in direct contact with water.

Coverage and drying: up to 12m² per litre per coat, so this 2.5 litre tin covers up to 30m² per coat. Two coats are recommended (darker or stronger colours may need more). Dry in 2 hours and recoat in 4 hours; allow longer in cool or humid conditions.
