Rust-Oleum 1080 High Build Metal Primer Grey 5L

Rust-Oleum 1080 High Build Metal Primer, grey, 5 litres: a high build primer for extra protection of bare or blasted metal.

Where to use it

On new, blasted steel, or over Rust-Oleum metal primers such as 769 or 569. Rust-Oleum states it gives appropriate protection under C1 to C4 exposure when applied on a Rust-Oleum metal primer and followed by Alkythane 7500.

Technical details

• Touch dry 4 hours; handle 8 hours; recoat 24 hours; fully cured 8 days (20°C, 50% RH)
• Theoretical coverage 9 m²/litre at 60 µm dry (105 µm wet); max. 100 µm dry per coat
• Brush or roller (8–14 mm polyamide): up to 10% Thinner 633
• Airless: up to 20% Thinner 641, tip 0.013–0.015", 130–200 bar. Air-atomised: 10–20% Thinner 641
• Apply at 5–35°C, humidity below 85%, surface 3°C above dew point
• Clean up with Thinner 160 or mineral spirits
• VOC 367 g/l

Preparation

Remove grease and contamination by alkaline or high-pressure (steam) cleaning. For best results blast to Sa 2½ (max. 50 µm profile). Sand sound old coatings to key them.
