Rust-Oleum 5500 High Build Epoxy 4L Kit

Rust-Oleum 5500 High Build Epoxy is a very durable two-pack epoxy floor coating, supplied as a complete 4 litre unit of base and 5501 activator.

Where to use it

Floors in garages, warehouses, showrooms, corridors, indoor car parks and workshops; also concrete, masonry and blasted steel. Prime porous substrates with 5401, 5401WB or 5421, and very dense ones such as ceramic tiles with 3333 or 3366. Not for swimming pools. In time the coating can yellow.

Technical details

• Mixing ratio base : activator 2.54 : 1.46 by volume (unit supplied matched); induction 15 minutes at 20°C
• Pot life 60 minutes (20°C), 90 minutes (15°C), 150 minutes (10°C)
• Touch dry and handle 24 hours; recoat after 24 and within 72 hours; fully cured 10 days (14 days for immersion)
• Theoretical coverage 6.7 m²/litre at 150 µm; max. 300 µm per coat
• Roller (12 mm polyester, disposable preferred); brush for small areas; do not thin. Lay on thickly in one direction – no cross-lapping
• Material 10–20°C; air and substrate 10–35°C; humidity below 85%
• Clean up with Thinner 160; VOC 155 g/l

Preparation

New concrete needs at least 30 days. Remove laitance and loose concrete, preferably by abrasive blasting, and repair defects with 5180 Epoxy Repair Mortar or 5412 Epoxy Putty. Steel: blast to Sa 2½.
