Rust-Oleum 9169 Epoxy Rust Primer Red 5L Kit

Rust-Oleum 9169 Epoxy Rust Primer, red: a low-viscosity two-pack epoxy primer for manually derusted metal, supplied as a complete 5 litre kit with activator.

System

Recoat with 9170/9180 primers and 9100 topcoats for protection against strong chemicals, acids, alkalis and solvents, frequent spillage and chemical cleaning, and high humidity.

Technical details

• Mixing ratio 1 : 1 by volume (kit supplied matched); induction time 1 hour
• Pot life 4 hours for a 5 litre mix at 20°C
• Touch dry 2 hours; handle 4 hours; recoat after 16 hours and within 72 hours; fully cured 8 days
• Theoretical coverage 11.7 m²/litre at 50 µm dry (85 µm wet); max. 100 µm dry per coat
• Brush, roller (8–12 mm) or airless: up to 10% Thinner 160; air-atomised up to 20%
• Apply at 5–35°C, humidity below 85%, surface 3°C above dew point
• Clean up with Thinner 160; VOC 371 g/l

Preparation

Degrease by alkaline or high-pressure (steam) cleaning. Remove loose rust, mill scale and failed coatings by hand or power tool to St 2/3; large areas may be brush-off blasted to Sa 2. Sand sound coatings and check compatibility.
